Blockchain Resources for Lawyers
As a lawyer, blockchain presents a seemingly infinite amount of problems and questions!
Upon first hearing about Bitcoin, blockchains, and everything in between, a good lawyer likely has some questions. These questions might include:
Are all blockchains the same? Are blockchains inherently cryptocurrencies and if not, what's the difference? Are cryptocurrencies legal? Are crypto or blockchain investments considered "jeopardy" investments? What are the tax consequences of investing in blockchain? What is a Bitcoin characterized as? Can investors avoid taxable gain with like-kind 1031 exchanges between different cryptocurrencies? Divorce lawyer looking for loot? What happens at the intersection of cryptocurrency and charity? Can blockchain technology be hacked and altered? Are all cryptocurrencies actually decentralized? How private are cryptocurrencies? Can I get paid in cryptocurrencies, and if so, how do I do so? Is a digital "wallet" a container for purposes of 4th Amendment jurisprudence?
This sampling of questions is but a drop in the bucket. Novel legal issues abound and legislators and judges are failing to respond in a timely fashion.
The goal of CryptoCurrency Research Lab for Lawyers is to fill in the gaps in your knowledge by giving you the exact information you NEED to know! While you shouldn't expect the same thoroughness as you might find on LexisNexis or Westlaw, that is not the point here. Rather, point of this site is to help you gather the best resources, for your specific needs, as quickly as possible. Relatedly, this website is FREE so quit complaining.
Nothing on this website, including CryptoCurrency Research Lab for Lawyers, should be construed as legal or investment advice. I am not a lawyer. I am not a financial expert. I am a law student, but no one cares about being almost anything. All of my research is self-driven and I have found it extremely helpful.
